The film Napoleon by Abel Gance, known as the Victor Hugo of the screen, was made in 1925 but not released until 1927. It was Benois' only work for the screen. According to Leon Barsacq: His sketches for Napoleon, inspired by original period documents, are both full of life and scrupulously authentic.
