Cylindrical, on three ball feet, the body and hinged cover with four cartouches engraved with scenes of Samson and Delilah: the body depicting Samson departing to the cities of the Philistines, his wedding banquet, and Delilah cutting Samson's locks as he sleeps; the cover depicting Samson seduced by Delilah, each flanked by scrolling foliate or stiff-leaf border, the scroll handle with split flared thumb-piece, marked under base, also with indistinct scratch weight
