The Ascension Novgorod or Northern Province within Novgorod influence, 16th century in the upper part of the panel flying angels resembing Victories, ascend, bearing between them a mandorla, irradiated with light and encompassing the Risen Saviour, his garments entirely shot through with golden assist; below, in an arrangement which departs from the usual ordered symmetry, are groups of Apostles, to whom angels, vestedin white, indicate Christ's Ascension; at the centre of the panel is an unusually diminutive figure of the Mother of God 59.5 by 46cm., 23I by 18in.
