A silver-gilt, enamel and marble timepiece Faberge, maker's mark in full below the Imperial warrant, workmaster J. Rappoport, St Petersburg, 1896-1908, inventory number: (?)12374 of classical temple form, the white enamel dial with arabic numerals and gilt hands framed by a laurel-chased bezel, mounted in an upright rectangular case enamelled in translucent strawberry over sunburst engine-turning, the front applied with a cast and chased basket of flowers, flanked by four marble columns with corinthian capitals supporting architrave and pediment, the base decorated with leaf-tip motif, on a marble socle raised on four lobed bun feet, clock movement replaced height 28.3 cm, 11 1/8 in For two other timepieces by Julius Rappoport of strongly architectural form, see Sotheby's London, 27 November 1961, lot 166, and Sotheby's Zurich, 16 November 1977, lot 398, the latter a presentation piece to Vladimir Petrovich Kornilov from his comrades of the Preobrajensky regiment.
