A nephrite timepiece with enamelled silver-gilt and jewelled two-colour gold mounts Faberge, maker's mark in full, workmaster H. Wigstrom, St Petersburg, 1908-1917, inventory number: 24810 the white enamel dial with arabic numerals and gold hands framed by a translucent red enamelled bezel bound by gold crossed bands, set into a cubic hardstone block applied with gold swags and drapes hung from cabochon ruby points, the silver-gilt base band chased with leaf-tip motif and mounted on a hardstone base raised on lobed bun feet, the reverse with hinged cover with key hook, enamel of dial cracked (2) height 9 cm, 3 1/2 in The basic prototype for this restrained and elegant Wigstrom design, in which simple classical motifs are applied to a block of well-chosen hardstone, is illustrated: Ulla Tillander-Godenhielm et al, Golden Years of Faberge, Drawings and Objects from the Wigstrom Workshop, New York/ Paris, 2000, p.104.
