Realistically painted, the two saints shown full-length beneath the icon of the Mother of God 'Reliever of Sorrows' held by two angel, the shaped wings with Sts. Nicholas and Alexandra, with Sts. Vladimir and Aleksei shown half-length, all within geometric borders, the silver-gilt mount with fitted panels of the Annunciation and the Four Evangelists on champlev enamel grounds of deep red, blue, green and white in Byzantine style, with shaped column of floral scrolls on green ground with chased and engraved finials and handle, the reverse with engraved Russian inscription 'Sincere offering from the St. Petersburg Merchant and Silversmith Feodor Andreevich Verkhovtsev 1855 July 27', marked on base and wing
