St. Petersburg, 1795-1826, rectangular with rounded corners, the lid inset with a miniature of a gentleman, possibly General P.I. Melissano (1730-1797), Russian School, late 18th century, wearing a blue coat with black facings, with the sashes and stars of the Orders of St Andrew and St Vladimir, and the neck badge of the Order of St Anne, the reserve chased with oak leaves, the sides with gardening attributes and a bow and arrow, the base with the skin of the Nemean lion draped over Hercules's club.
