St. Petersburg, 1840, of shaped rectangular form, the borders of the dishes chased in high relief with shells, scrolls and foliage, each slip-on cover engraved on one side with the Imperial monogram of Olga Nicholaevna and on the other side with the Imperial eagle, each handle in the form of conjoined scrolls rising from leaves, the interiors gilded, 149 ozs. Olga Nicholaevna (1822-92), Queen of Wiirttemberg was the daughter of Emperor Nicholas I and Empress Alexandra Feodorovna of Russia. She married King Carl I of Wiirttemberg in 1846. A wine cooler in silver from the same service was sold Sotheby’s Geneva, May 27, 1993, lot 228. Gilded silver wine coolers and verrieres from this service were sold Sotheby’s New York, December 6, 1994, lot 378 and 379.
