AN IMPORTANT JEWELLED, GOLD AND NEPHRITE LILY-OF-THE-VALLEY SPRAY

Add to collection

With three flowering branches and two carved nephrite leaves in a plain baluster-shaped flawless rock-crystal vase with frosted handles, carved to simulate water in its interior, the blossoms and buds as pearls, some with rose-diamond petals, signed on the stem. The Lily-of-the-Valley is one of Faberg6’s most popular creations. While vases with single or double sprays are numerous, three-spray flowers are extremely rare. The most famous example of a lily-of-the-valley composition is the basket in the Matilda Geddings Grey Collection, New Orleans, which belonged amongst the Empress’s favourite table ornaments, cf. G. v. Habsburg and A. v. Solodkoff, Faberge, 1979, pi. 112.
