AN ENAMELLED AND WOODEN PICTURE- FRAME
by Ivan Britzin
St. Petersburg, last quarter 19th century. The circular salmon guilloche enamelled frame within opaque white bands, mounted on a wooden frame with strut. Britzin's firm was founded in 1860 and became one of Faberge's main competitors in enamel, using predominantly pastel colors. It has been suggested, but not proven, that Britzin was apprenticed to Fabergd. See A. von Solodkoff, Russian Gold and Silverwork, New York, 1981, pp. 116, 210.
