AN UNUSUAL PARCEL-GILT BOX
by Gubkin & Co., assaymaster I. Avdeev
Moscow, 1858. Formed as a roosting hen, the naturalistically chased bird sitting on nest within a basket. Ivan Semenovich Gubkin founded his firm in Moscow, in 1841, and received the Imperial Warrant mark for the quality of his work and for the fact that along with Sazikov and Ovchinnikov, he owned one of the largest workshops in Moscow.
