A NIELLOED PARCEL-GILT COVERED SUGAR-BOWL WITH TWELVE SPOONS

Moscow, 1884, assaymaster Cyrillic P (cf. Postnikova-Loseva no. 624); six spoons by Maria Semenova, Moscow, 1908-1917; the other six Moscow, 1890, unrecorded maker's mark A.Ch, assaymaster Cyrillic L ̠(cf. Postnikova-Loseva no. 625). Chalice-shaped, the spreading beaded foot, baluster stem and circular bowl nielloed with arabesque bands, geometric motifs and rosettes, the rim applied with twelve beaded rings suspending twelve plain silver-gilt spoons, each with twisted handle and coronet finial, the raised detachable cover similarly nielloed including two vacant circular medallions and two larger ones with views of the Kremlin, with beaded knop finial.
