With satin interior, the cover decorated with the crowned initials of the Imperial couple Nicholas and Alexandra, set with rose-diamonds, within a silver-gilt wreath of lilies and roses tied by a ribbon bearing the Russian inscription 'From the City of St. Petersburg'. Within a rectangular silver-gilt frame decorated with four acanthus leaves at the corners, containing an oval aperture bordered with Gothic ornament, four anthemion scrolls at the corners, with the arms of the city between a branch of laurel and an oak tree.
NOTE: Ordered as a present to the Imperial Couple by the City, of St.
Petersburg, but never delivered. Bought by the present owners father in St. Petersburg in the 1930's.
