V. Khlebnikov, Izbornik stikhov 1907-1914 (Selection of Poems 1907-1914), Euy, St. Petersburg, 1914 (Karshan 11; Compton p. 126)
Kasimir Malevich, Pavel Filonov and Nikolai Burliuk
Letterpress designs and lithographs, 1914, on buff and orange wove paper, 48 pages of typeset text with one letterpress design after Malevich and the suite of sixteen pages of lithographs and lithographic text by Filonov, very good, black impressions, the full sheets as published, the inner pages in exceptionally good condition, the orange paper of the suite still strong and fresh (one page with minor creasing at one edge), in thick buff wove paper cover with title and design by Burliuk on front, some minor nicks and creases mainly at the spine and at the edges, generally in very good condition overall. The first section of Izbornik stikhov consists of a series of early poems selected for publication by Khlebnikov himself, the second section is made up of works being published for the first time and the final section is devoted to a fascinating series of lithographs and text by Pavel Filonov. Nothing that Filonov contributed to other avant-garde publications can compare with the marvellous design of these pages.Izbornik stikhov also contains an interesting design of a lost Malevich drawing entitled Horse-driven Coach in Motion. A letterpress of this print also appeared in Tree the previous year.Examples rarely appear on the market and the present copy survives in very good condition.
