The painting commemorates a fabulous incident from the Civil War, when in October 1919, the White Russian General Yudenich with more than 150,000 men was marching on Petograd. His army was stopped at Pulkovo, just outside the city, when the workers of Petrograd rallied to support the 7th Red Army.
