A Porcelain Tete-A-Tete Tea Service
by the Batenin Factory, St Petersburg, circa 1820
Comprising an egg-shaped teapot on spreading foot with flared upper rim, gilt spout and scroll handle, the cover with a gilt bud finial, the egg-shaped milk jug on spreading foot with tall neck and shaped spout and tall scroll handle, the egg-shaped sugar bowl on spreading foot with two handles and cover with bud finial, each cylindrical cup tapering above into a flared rim and with tall scroll handle, the saucer circular, the tray of canted square form, the bodies of each painted with a multi-coloured miniature depicting scenes of The Stone Bridge and Constable Square at Gatchina, with thick gilt rims, marked under base of milk jug, sugar bowl, cups and saucer in Cyrillic 's.z.k.b.'
