MASSIVE RUSSIAN SILVER-GILT AND ENAMEL PRESENTATION JEWEL CASKET

Ovchinnikov, Moscow, 1893, of rectangular shape with hinged cover, each end with a carrying handle, raised on four bun feet, enameled all over with multi-colored scrolling foliage, and with geometric borders, the cover with a shield enameled with the armorials of Riazan, the sides applied with shields enameled with the armorials of the various towns of the governorship of Riazan, including, Zaraisk, Pronsk, Sapojok, and Skopin, maker's mark effaced.
This impressive presentation casket was apparently a gift from the Governorship of Riazan; possibly a presentation to the new Czar Nicholas II upon his accession in 1894.
