Boldly painted with a female figure holding a casket before an altar, the cavetto and the rim painted with antique ornament in black against a terracotta ground, details in a deeper sienna red
The Etruscan service was commissioned for the Tsaritsyn Pavilion on an island in the middle of a lake at Peterhof, designed as a private retreat for the Empress Alexandra Feodorovna in 1839 by Stakenshneider; all the furnishings were executed in an antique style. The Etruscan Service was designed for 48 people.
