The sides of the round box enameled translucent lilac over a guilloche ground and applied with alternating Imperial cyphers for Nicholas II and Alexandra Feodorov-na, also applied with the Imperial eagle, the lower border with a raised inscription executed on a stippled ground, 'GIVEN BY H.M. NICHOLAS II TO LIONEL SACKVILLE-WEST, MOSCOW, 14 MAY 1896,' the slip-on cover mounted with a silver coronation medal with the profiles of Nicholas II and Alexandra Feodorovna on the obverse and the Imperial eagle on the reverse, dated 1896, signed Baskiv, the border of the cover chased with acanthus leaves.
