The outer surface of translucent royal blue enamel over wavy engine-turning below a white line border and polished rim, the prow inset with a 20 kopek silver coin of Empress Catherine II dated 1774 and part-enamelled in white, the handle cast as two snakes, their heads set with cabochon garnets, gilt interior, the base inscribed in Russian 'To Alexander Nikolaevich Demidov from his comrades of the Second Cadre', struck with workmaster's initials and K.Fabergé in Cyrillic beneath the Imperial Warrant, 88 standard, scratched inventory number 6561 or 1959
