Centred by a medallion with the Mother of God of the Sign, her hands raised in prayer, with a circular inscription in Church Slavonic, and with four prophets depicted in the corners, in the upper register St John the Forerunner in the centre flanked by four prophets, in the lower register St Petr of Moscow, St Sergei of Radonezh and St Catherine, two saints missing, an inscription in Greek running on both sides of the panel, the reverse applied with a wax seal of the arms of Prince Scherbatov and Countess Stroganov
