FIRST EDITION of Prince Gagarin's finely illustrated comparative study of Old-Russia and Byzantine ornaments. During his long tenure as Vice President of the Imperial Academy of Arts, Gagarin was instrumental in promoting the Byzantine, or Russian Revival, Style, and built the museum of early Christian art at the Academy.
